PARENT TIP
Before you explore, ask your little one:
• What animals do you think live in a swamp?
• Have you ever seen a real alligator, turtle, or frog?
• What do you think a swamp smells like?
Every swamp tells a story. This one belongs to Chomp.
Somewhere tucked between cypress trees draped in Spanish moss, there is a swamp alive with sound, color, and science. Frogs call out at dusk. Turtles bask on half-submerged logs. A great blue heron stands perfectly still at the water’s edge, waiting.
And right in the middle of it all – Chomp.
What Is the Learning Zone?
The Learning Zone is where we go deeper. Beyond the stories, beyond the illustrations, into the real science behind Chomp’s world. Every creature in the swamp has a job. Every plant has a purpose. Every raindrop that falls into that murky water sets something in motion.
Here, we explore all of it – together.
Each post in the Learning Zone focuses on one animal, one plant, or one big idea from the swamp ecosystem. You will find parent discussion tips at the top of every post, real science written for curious young minds, and a simple activity to try at home or in the classroom.
What’s Coming to the Learning Zone
Over the coming weeks, we will discover:
• Alligators – the swamp’s most iconic residents
• Turtles – slow, steady, and surprisingly ancient
• Frogs – nature’s loudest scientists
• Herons, otters, dragonflies, and so much more
Every post connects back to Chomp’s world and the books your family already loves.
Who Is This For?
Parents and educators who want to turn storytime into science time. Children ages 3-8 who are ready to wonder out loud. Anyone who has ever looked at a swamp and thought – what is actually going on in there?
Let’s find out together.
